Via Flaminia ClassicÂ
Slow food, fast driving
This year’s edition of the Via Flaminia begins not far from Turin, in what could well be called the heart of Slow Food. We will spend our first two nights at the Albergo dell’Agenzia, once home to the Università di Scienze Gastronomiche, and today the perfect base from which to explore the region.
On our first driving day we will head into the rolling hills of the Langhe, visiting one of the most renowned Barolo wineries before returning to our hotel. The following day we continue east to Tabiano Castello, a place we last visited nearly ten years ago. Here we will once again enjoy two nights in this enchanting setting – a historic castle surrounded by its farmhouses. We will discover the gentle hills of Emilia-Romagna, visit the remarkable Lancia collection of Giorgio Schön, and enjoy his warm hospitality. Our stay will of course include a dinner highlighting the regional culinary specialities.
From Tabiano we make our way towards the hills above Lucca, a wonderful route along the edge of the Apennines with sweeping through-roads and smaller mountain passes. In the hills above Lucca we will have an entire village to ourselves – a truly unique experience.
The journey then continues east to Borgo Condé Wine Resort, a beautiful estate we have visited before and one that combines outstanding wines with fine dining. We will spend two nights here, and on the final day of the rally discover some of the hidden gems of the northern Apennines.

The next day it’s a 90 km drive to the Bologna Airport where we will be collecting your car for transport back to the Nethelands.
You can choose between different classes, depending on how competitive you would like the rally to be. In all cases you will receive a detailed roadbook.
The Bright Class is the most competitive option, with your progress checked via the Rallycheck app.
Alternatively, you can opt for the lighter Shine Class, with less complicated navigational challenges.
The most relaxed way to take part is in the Smile Class, where the full route is provided on an app that you can simply follow.
Whichever class you choose, the rallies organised by Via Flaminia are always known for their relaxed atmosphere and wonderful ambience. You will have plenty of time to take photos or stop for an Italian espresso.
There are 27 places available for cars up to 1980.
For teams with a combined age is under 100, there is a discount of 1% for each year less than 100, with a maximum of 15% (reference year 2027). They may also bring a younger car, one year per 2 years younger than 100.
This edition of the Via Flaminia Classic begins just 60 km south of Turin. We suggest arriving a few days early to enjoy the city of Turin, with its grand architecture and the exceptional MAUTO car museum.
For those who wish, your classic car will be transported from the Netherlands to Turin Airport, ready for you to collect on Saturday. From there it is only a 90 km drive to our starting point: the Albergo dell’Agenzia.
The hotel is part of the Tenuta Reale di Pollenzo, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Once the royal estate of King Carlo Alberto, today it houses the UniversitĂ di Scienze Gastronomiche and the famous Banca del Vino. It is therefore not only a magnificent setting, but also a perfect start to our motto: slow food, fast driving.
Those choosing the upgrade will stay at Albergo dell’Agenzia, while others will be accommodated at the charming Corte Albertina, located on the very same estate.
It is September, the height of harvest season. We will be driving through gently rolling vineyards, passing through the renowned Moscato and Barbera wine regions, before arriving at Scarpa Vineyard for a relaxed lunch among the vines.
While we won’t be able to taste everything to our heart’s content, the return drive along quiet, winding roads offers more stunning views of the Italian countryside, bringing us back to our hotel, Albergo dell’Agenzia.
Â
A perfect combination of slow food and fast driving, this leg of the rally lets you enjoy Italy’s finest wines, scenery, and roads in one unforgettable day.
Today promises to be a long day, especially in the afternoon, but much of the route follows smooth, open roads, allowing us to make good progress while enjoying the beautiful Italian countryside.
We will be visiting Giorgio Schön, an old friend with a remarkable collection of classic rally cars. Not only will we explore his extraordinary collection, but we will also enjoy lunch there. In previous years, Giorgio has treated us to truly exceptional food, so we are eagerly anticipating another memorable experience.
In the afternoon, we will continue through the rolling hills of Emilia-Romagna, enjoying a mix of scenic main roads and charming backroads, before arriving at our castle for the next two nights. This gives everyone the chance to relax, soak in the surroundings, and appreciate the beautiful location.
The following morning will be a short, leisurely day, allowing everyone to rest, enjoy the landscape, and relish the joy of classic car driving at a relaxed pace.
Â
Today’s stage is a relaxed one – just 120 kilometres – but don’t be misled by the distance. The roads are more demanding as we wind our way into the rolling hills that are home to some of Italy’s greatest culinary treasures. This is the heartland of prosciutto, truffles, pasta and Parmigiano Reggiano – flavours that have shaped Italian cuisine for centuries.
You are free to leave the hotel whenever you wish and set your own pace. The route offers sweeping views, winding country roads and the kind of driving that makes classic motoring so rewarding. We will provide a few suggestions for where you might like to stop for lunch, but the day is yours to enjoy as you please.
Just remember not to overindulge, as a splendid dinner awaits us back at Tabiano Castello.
Today we leave Emilia-Romagna and cross into Tuscany – a passage that feels almost like crossing into another country. For centuries the Apennines formed not only a natural border, but also a political one. Rival states and city republics often contested control over these vital passes, as river valleys and mountain roads were the only arteries between the two regions.
Much of that struggle was about trade: routes that carried salt, silk, and later the wines, cheeses, and cured meats that both regions are still famous for today. As we wind our way through these historic routes, you’ll sense how geography, history, and gastronomy are closely intertwined – and why arriving in Tuscany feels like entering a world of its own.
We will be staying in a Borgo that is entirely reserved for us, giving the group the rare pleasure of having a traditional Tuscan hamlet all to ourselves. Here, meals will highlight the flavours of the region – rustic breads drizzled with local olive oil, hearty ribollita soups, handmade pici pasta, and of course wines from the surrounding hillsides.Â
After a leisurely day, it’s time for a longer stage again. This time we set course for our final destination, where we will be staying for two nights. We leave Tuscany behind and make our way towards Emilia-Romagna, home to Borgo Condé Wine Resort.
The route offers a fine variety: at first we follow the lower Apennine slopes with views across the Tuscan valleys. Later, the road climbs deeper into the Apennines themselves, a mountainous landscape with winding roads and wide panoramas. For much of the afternoon we trace a valley running parallel to the mountain ridge, until finally reaching our destination.
Borgo Condé Wine Resort, set among vineyards and olive groves, will be our base for the next two nights. With its winery and regional cuisine, it provides a fitting setting to conclude this journey.
It’s already the final day of the rally, and once again we take things at a leisurely pace. Our route leads us over rolling hills with views of the Adriatic Sea, towards Rimini – historically the end point of the ancient Via Flaminia, the great Roman road that once linked Rome to the coast, and a fitting conclusion to our journey as well.
We will pause for lunch at a nautical club overlooking the harbour, where the setting is as enjoyable as the food. Afterwards, you are free to explore Rimini at your own pace, perhaps strolling through the old town or relaxing on one of its many beaches, before returning to the hotel for our closing dinner and the prize-giving ceremony.
The rally has now come to a conclusion, and it’s time to say farewell, hopefully until next time. For those with a little time to spare, it’s really worth visiting Ravenna, just 40 km from Borgo CondĂ© Wine Resort. This remarkable city is renowned for its early Christian Byzantine mosaics, many of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as its monumental churches and historic architecture.Â
For those having their car shipped back to the Netherlands, the Bologna Airport is only at a distance of 90 km and it is from there that the cars are shopped back.
