Rally System
The Via Flaminia rallies are renowned for their warm and welcoming atmosphere with a maximum of 30 competing teams. Although Bart Kleyn, the organizer, has a background in competitive events like the Tulip Rallye, the Via Flaminia rallies have evolved over the past 20 years to better align with participants’ preferences. The focus has gradually shifted from competition to offering enjoyable experiences and comfortable accommodations, with a more relaxed ambiance.
Each rally features two distinct classes:
- Smile Class: This class captures the essence of the Via Flaminia. Participants receive a route to follow on a phone app. If you stray off course, the app will show your position relative to the planned route and you will be able to find your way back. This class is non-competitive, allowing you to enjoy the event without the pressure of rankings.
- Shine Class: Ideal for those who enjoy slight competition, the Shine Class maintains the Via Flaminia tradition of focusing on navigation rather than speed. You’ll have the flexibility to stop for coffee or take photos. Rankings are based on navigation skills, adding a competitive edge while keeping the spirit of camaraderie alive.

Additionally, the Via Flaminia rally in Italy features the Bright Class. This class offers a more competitive experience with longer distances and more challenging navigation. For 2025, Joep Wanders, twice successful planner of the Tulip Rallye will be planning the Bright Class. The winner of the Bright Class will have their name engraved on the Challenge Cup, a Flaminia piston, celebrating their achievement.
